On the next Living Classical with Tyler Kline: There’s a moment when a child learns a new word,  and suddenly the world opens outward, full of possibility. Poems by Diane Thiel linger in that feeling of discovery, watching language take shape for the very first time. Composer Dale Trumbore turns those moments into music, tracing how wonder, imagination, and meaning grow word by word.

In poetry, a volta is the moment everything turns – when the ground shifts and a new perspective suddenly comes into view. That idea sits at the heart of Anthony Cheung’s Volta, a work shaped by volatility, interruption, and sudden inward turns. The music moves through turbulence and restraint alike, never settling where you expect it to land.

Plus, music by Dawn Avery, Kalaisan Kalaichelvan, Connor D’Netto, Linda Kernohan, Sarah Kirkland Snider, Shuying Li, Carrie Frey, Mischa Salkind-Pearl, and Lara Weaver.

Featuring performances by cellist Wilhelmina Smith; clarinetist Cecilia Kang with pianist Angela Park; violinists Courtenay Cleary and Adam Chalabi; pianist Nicholas Phillips; and ensembles The Rhythm Method, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Ludovico Ensemble, and Crash Ensemble.

Join Tyler Kline for this edition of Living Classical — where language, structure, and sudden turns shape the music of our time.
