As the longest nights of the year approach, the sky becomes both mirror and mystery – a place where sound, space, and silence converge. On this special wintertime edition of Living Classical with Tyler Kline, composers turn their attention to the night: to stars, distance, darkness, and the shifting light that moves among them.

Hour 1 features works by Elena Langer, Golfam Khayam, Chris Opperman, Max Vinetz, Helen Grime, Juhi Bansal, Caterina Schembri, and Natalie Moller – music that reflects the atmosphere of starlight and shadow, where brightness and obscurity meet.

In Hour 2, the focus deepens toward the landscape beneath the sky, tracing the intersection of weather, memory, and nocturnal sound. Hear music by Bosba Panh, Alex Dowling, Scott Ordway, Emma O’Halloran, Dai Fujikura, Alice Ping Yee Ho, and Paul Wiancko – each work placed in dialogue through the vast terrain of the night.

Featuring performances by violinist Yolanda Bruno and pianist Isabelle David; Duo Noire; pianist Chris Opperman; ensembles Musiqa and Hallé; soprano Laura Strickling and pianist Daniel Schlosberg; vocalist Michelle O’Rourke with Ficino Ensemble; Admiral Launch Duo; guitarist Jamie Monck; vocalists Emma O’Halloran, Annika Socolofsky, Chris Douthitt, Alex Dowling, and Pascal Le Boeuf on synthesizer; Lorelei Ensemble;; Refugee Orchestra Project with vocalist Madeline Healey; violist Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti; Duo Concertante; and Owls.

Join Tyler Kline for this special edition of Living Classical – a journey through music that listens to the stars, the darkness, and the light that remains.
