From the first snowfall to the sudden burst of a winter storm, each kind of weather has its own rhythm — reshaping wind, and the stillness that follows a storm.Â
Hour 1 features works by Anuj Bhutani, Jonathan Hannau, Nicky Sohn, Outi Tarkiainen, Asuka Kakitani, Theresa Martin, and Gifrants with music that moves through drifting snow, melting ice, and the quiet tension between fire and frost.
In Hour 2, the landscape shifts again as composers trace the transformations of air and light: from the prismatic movement of wind to the delicate wait for snow. Hear music by Zachary Good, Chloe Upshaw, Shuying Li, Anna Appleby, Angélica Negrón, and David Crowell, each capturing a different facet of winter’s atmosphere.
Featuring performances by pianists Shannon Wettstein, Marianne Parker, Annie Jeng, and Jonathan Hannau; clarinetists Andy Hudson, Anthony Taylor, and Zachary Good; flutists Laura Lentz, Helen Brew, and Roberta Michel; bassoonist David Hubbard; violist Katherine Wren; and ensembles Crossing Borders Music, Kinetic Ensemble, Four Corners Ensemble, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and NOW Ensemble.
Join Tyler Kline for this special edition of Living Classical: a celebration of sound shaped by the atmosphere of Winter.
